Genzo-e is a meditation and study retreat designed to allow for a deep investigation of the teachings of Dogen Zenji, the 13th-century founder of Soto Zen. This week-long retreat will be led by Rev. Shohaku Okumura, one of the world's foremost teachers on Dogen's practice and philosophy.

The texts will be Shobogenzo "Kaiin Zanmai" (Ocean Seal Samadhi) and "Zanmai-O-zanmai" (King of Samadhis Samadhi) both translated by Carl Bielefeldt and available on-line as printable PDF documents through the Stanford Soto Zen Text Project website, numbers 13 and 66.

Orientation for the retreat will be on Friday evening, August 6, at 7:30 pm.

Retreat fees: The cost for the retreat including meals is $420; for current members of San Francisco Zen Center, $378.

For those only able to attend the classes, the fees will be: $180; $162 for current SFZC members; $144 for limited income. Inquire regarding the schedule for the classes at time of registration.

Overnight accommodation: $25 per night shared. $50 per night for single, private accommodation, if available. Accommodations may be very limited. There are many hotels and bed-and-breakfasts in the area. Please contact the front office for more information.
